Colettes Buko Pie at Pasalubong

Colette's Buko Pie at Pasalubong

Colette’s Buko Pie at Pasalubong is a good manufacturing and retail business that produces a variety of pies, rice cakes and pastries, with buko pie as its carrier product. It also sells native delicacies (pasalubong) and confections sourced from various suppliers.

History:
It was in 1989 when couple Atty. Regina Bulatao-dela Cruz and Plaridel dela Cruz seriously considered going into another business, as a previously-managed family business proved to be unsuccessful for the latter.

Their daughter, Colette, was still then attending secondary school at UP Los Baños. Their constant trips to Los Baños introduced Atty. Dela Cruz to the delectable taste of buko pie. Realizing the potentials of a buko pie business in San Pablo where buko pies where non-existent at the time, Atty. Dela Cruz prodded her husband to put up a buko pie business.

The couple decided to search for somebody from Los Baños who had know-how in buko pie making. They found an experienced buko pie maker who was willing to teach the process of buko pie-making for a fee.

Initially, Mr. Dela Cruz opted to produce pandesal alongside the pies. However, it was the pies, which apparently captured the market. From the moment they began baking their first pies, which sold for P19.00, they were already a hit with the customers. From an initial production of 20 pies a day during the first few days of opening, production shot up to at least 50 pies daily in the succeeding days.

Product Line:
In order to keep up with the recent trends and innovations in food and answer the market’s need for variety, Colete’s Buko Pie at Pasalubong has organized a product research and development tam. This team faces the challenge of improving existing products and coming up with new products acceptable to the market.

Colette’s R&D led to the development of products such as Buko Pandan Pe, Buko Langka Pie, Ube-Macapuno Pie, Maja Blanca and Cassava Bibingka. They have also added int their product line pastries such as Coconut Macaroons, Chocolate Crinkles, Butterscotch Bars and Cashew Tarts, among others.

Apart from manufacturing its products, Colette’s also sells pasalubong items such as espasol, uraro, pastilles, broas, bagoong and barquillos, which are sourced from various suppliers.
