Lety’s Buko Pie (at iba pa) is a single proprietorship owned and operated by Mrs. Leticia O. Belarmino. The enterprise started in 1976, as a “hobby” of Mrs. Belarmino, with an initial capital of 200 pesos (taken from the meager savings of the family). As of the year 2004, its assets directly used in the business amounted to more than 2.0 million pesos.

For almost 20 years (1976 to around 1996), no serious effort was made to really spur up the development and expansion of the business. The enterprise was solely considered as an ordinary household undertaking meant to augment the family income. But as it were, improvements and innovations were continuously made on the product by its owner (Mrs. Belarmino).

Homma-Yamashita Shrine

Four years of war occupation destroyed many buildings, roads and bridges in and around Los Baños. In quick succession, the College of Agriculture became a Japanese camp for prisoners of war, an interment camp for allied nationals. A target of Kempetai punitive measures and the headquarters of a secret organization of guerillas. After the dramatic rescue of the American Internees by Filipino guerillas and United States paratroopers on February 23, 1945, the entire campus was sacked by the Japanese and razed to the ground.

The National Arts Center

The National Arts Center is a sanctuary for young and aspiring Filipino artists that is located in Mount Makiling, Los Baños, Laguna, the Philippines.

The Center was established in 1976 by First Lady Imelda Marcos as a haven for young and aspiring artists. Its various buildings and facilities are scattered over 13.5 hectares of the Makiling Forest Reservation and also houses the Philippine High School for the Arts, a government-run secondary educational institution for gifted young artists.

Mount Makiling by Philippine Beach Resorts

Mount Makiling, also rarely Mount Maquiling, is located in the province of Laguna on the island of Luzon, Philippines. It is an inactive volcano, which rises to 1,090 m above sea level. Legends surround the mountain, many of which relate to Maria Makiling, said to be the ‘guardian fairy’ of the mountain. The contour of the mountain is said to be that of her in a reclining position.

The University of the Philippines, Los Baños is designated as the official caretaker of the mountain.
